We’ve been working hard this year talking to our elected representatives and learning about the process of getting a bill through the Kentucky legislature.

The key advice has been consistent! Here’s the best ways to let your legislator know a bill is important to you, in order:

MEET IN PERSON

Set up a face-to-face meeting with your senator or representative. It’s critical to do your homework before the meeting! Read their website and social media to get to know them. Identify their priorities in the legislation they’ve sponsored.

SEND A HAND-WRITTEN LETTER

Every legislator we’ve spoken with has mentioned how much they value a personal letter!

CALL THE LEGISLATIVE RESOURCE LINE

It’s as easy as 1-2-3! This is the simplest and most important action to take when the legislature is in session and a bill is on the floor. Calling the members of the State & Local Government committee TODAY will let them know that Ranked Choice Voting isn’t unheard of in the commonwealth and that we’re out here supporting it!

EMAIL A PERSONAL NOTE

Not the best form of communication, but if you want to email your legislator make it personal. Adding your own thoughts to a form letter makes it better.

Have you written a letter or email to your representatives?  We'd love to share them on our blog!  Email us at [email protected] or share in the comments below
